Shoujo series are a bit infamous for their overly-idealized and sudden romances but Cardcaptor Sakura is again an exception. You contempt Li when he's first introduced and by the end you grow to enjoy his presence almost as much as Sakura herself. This is a very gradual change and it's paced well enough that it feels completely natural, a change you might not even notice without retrospect. This relationship serves as the basis for the central theme of the series as their feelings and relationship change and develop immensely, from rivals to friends and finally to lovers.
